A spokesman says he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.
Mark DeMoss, a spokesman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, says, “It was described by nurse and doctor as a very peaceful passing. He was not in any pain, and he wouldn’t have suffered any.”
After suffering from vision, hearing loss, Parkinson’s-like symptoms diagnosed nearly 20 years ago, Graham’s personal physician, Lucian Rice of Asheville, says, “He just wore out.”
“I think we can say he passed in his sleep. Nobody would have been with him other than an attendant nurse,” DeMoss adds.
USA Today reports that Graham died at 7:33 a.m. He was found by his longtime assistant, David Bruce, who then called Graham’s son, Franklin Graham, who was in Dallas.
Graham’s Burial Arrangements
According to The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the funeral service will hold in the afternoon on March 2, 2018.
The funeral, which will be a private affair, will be held at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte.
U.S President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, the living former U.S. presidents, George H.W. Bush, his son, George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, have all received invitations.
His son, Franklin Graham and his four other children are expected to speak at the funeral service.
Afterwards, he will be buried next to his wife, Ruth Bell Graham, who died in 2007, on the library grounds of the Graham home.
